YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Thirteen different players scored as the Young Harris College women's lacrosse team recorded a 22-4 non-conference win over Newberry College Wednesday (March 22) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions snapped their five-game losing streak as they improved to 5-6, while the Wolves fell to 4-7. Young Harris returns to action Sunday (March 26) at noon when they host the University of Virginia's College at Wise.
Young Harris scored the first nine goals of the match and never looked back as they outshot Newberry 36-9 and won 19 of the 27 draw controls. The defense for the Mountain Lions forced 24 Newberry turnovers.
Nicole Kernohan led the Mountain Lions with five goals, while
Sarah Bialecki and
Kendra Parenteau added three goals.
Kaylynn Roach found the back of the net twice, while
Maddie Peek,
Erika Cross,
Leigh Anne Turner,
Mary Deatrick,
Meghan Tonnesen,
Rachel Lepine,
Kirsten Barth,
Kelsey Dover and
Katie McNutt each scored once. Bialecki recorded five assists, while Parenteau added four more.Peek tallied two assists, while Cross, Kernohan and Turner had one each.
Barth led the way with nine draw controls, while Lepine had three, Peek, Deatrick and Roach also posted two draw controls. Bialecki scooped up four ground balls, while Lepine and Parenteau each snagged three.
Julia Darroch stopped three shots in goal for the Mountain Lions.
