YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. |
Eric Dickinson and Mike Hanlon scored three goals apiece to lead No. 11 Lenoir-Rhyne University to a 14-9 non-conference men's lacrosse victory over Young Harris College Tuesday (March 21) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Bears won their seventh match of the season in eight attempts, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-6. Young Harris will face their second consecutive nationally ranked team Sunday (March 26) when they travel to Saint Leo, Florida, for a noon match against No. 15 Saint Leo University.

Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first quarter and pushed it to 5-2 after Ryan Bell scored 84 seconds into the second quarter; however, the Mountain Lions only trailed 5-4 at the half after getting strikes from Sam Gasta and Bevan Pate.

The Bears took control of the match in the third quarter, scoring six times to open up an 11-5 lead going into the final quarter. The Mountain Lions reeled off three unanswered goals - two by Bruce Silk and one by Gasta - midway through the fourth quarter to get as close as 13-9.

Silk led YHC with three goals, while Gasta and Pate each scored twice. Colin Fitzpatrick and Chandler Bradley also found the back of the net for the Mountain Lions. Gasta, Pate and Silk also tallied an assist as Young Harris held a 42-40 advantage on shots.

Lenoir-Rhyne held a 16-12 lead in face-off victories. Zach Stephenson won 11 face-offs for the Mountain Lions, while leading the team with seven ground balls. Gasta scooped up three, while Zach Hemans and Kyle Beverly had  two each.

Sean Dever picked up seven saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
