Mountain Lions use strong second half in 13-6 win over Cobras

Young Harris College scored eight goals in the second half to pull away from Coker College 13-6 in a men's lacrosse match Sunday (March 19) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 5-5, while the Cobras slipped to 3-4. The Mountain Lions entertain No. 12 Lenoir-Rhyne University in a 4 p.m. match Tuesday (March 21).

With Young Harris holding a tenuous 5-4 halftime lead, the Mountain Lions outscored the Cobras 8-2 over the match's final 30 minutes, After Coker tied the match at 5 in the opening minutes of the third quarter, Bevan Pate and Sam Gasta each found the back of the net to give YHC a 7-4 lead with 8:08 to play. After the Cobras got a goal back to close within a goal at 7-6, the Mountain Lions closed over the match by scoring the final six goals.

Gasta, Pate and Bruce Silk each scored three times for the Mountain Lions, while Colin Fitzpatrick scored twice. Duncan Jackson and Sean Sieman each contributed a goal in the victory. Gasta added two assists, while Chandler Bradley, Fitzpatrick, Julian Infanti and Pate tallied one apiece.

Young Harris held a 41-28 advantage in shots, including a 28-12 margin in the second half. The Mountain Lions held a 27-16 margin in ground balls, while winning 15 of the 23 face-offs. 

Zac Barrett record 10 face-off wins, while Zach Stephenson had five. Gasta scooped up five ground balls, while Barrett had four more. Matty Ledon and Darrien Mask pick up three ground balls each. 

Mason King registered five saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
