Kendra Parenteau's goal with 1:59 remaining in overtime gave Young Harris College a 14-13 Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse win over Shorter University Saturday (Feb. 25) evening at Ben Brady Field.
It was the first overtime game for the Mountain Lions in the history of the program that dates back to 2013.
The Mountain Lions improved to 4-1 overall and to 3-1 in the league, while the Hawks fell to 3-2 and 1-2. Young Harris starts a two-game swing through the state of Florida Wednesday (March 1) when they travel to Tampa for a 7 p.m. match against the University of Tampa.
Shorter had forced the extra period by scoring five of the last six goals in the final 14:31 of regulation.
Parenteau led the Mountain Lions with six goals, while
Nicole Kernohan had three more.
Sarah Bialecki and
Katie McNutt had two goals apiece, while
Rachel Lepine had one. Bialecki,
Erika Cross, Kernohan, Lepine, Parenteau and
Kaylynn Roach contributed an assist in the win.
Kirsten Barth had four draw controls for Young Harris, while Lepine had three and Meghan Tonnessen posted two more. Bialecki paced the Young Harris defense with five ground balls while
Madison Ring and Kernohan each scooped up three more.
Julia Darroch recorded eight saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
