AIKEN, S.C. | Nick Goings drove in four runs as the University of South Carolina Aiken recorded a 15-5 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Young Harris College Saturday (Feb. 25) afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The No. 10-ranked Pacers improved to 11-2 overall and to 2-0 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-10 and 0-2. The teams wrap up their three-game series with a 1 p.m. contest Sunday (Feb. 26).
Young Harris took a 1-0 lead on
Luke Miller's first home run of the season, before the Pacers scored four times in the bottom half of the inning. Three of the runs came on Goings' bases-clearing double to right-center field.
The Mountain Lions got two runs back in the top of the fifth to close to within a run at 4-3.
Brett Westmoreland led off the inning with his second home run of 2017 and Young Harris added another run on a double play.
The Pacers, who collected 17 hits. broke the game open with two runs in their half of the inning before adding two more runs in the sixth and seven more in the seventh to take a 15-3 lead. Young Harris scored twice in the ninth inning on back-to-back bases loaded walks to
Zach Odom and
Zach Wall.
Joseph Benitez (3-1) earned the win for the Pacers with eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings, while
Chris Noonan (0-1) took the loss.
