MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Young Harris College won four of the six singles matches to rally for a 5-4 upset victory over Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference women's tennis match Friday (Feb. 24) afternoon at the Centennial Center.
The Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 50 in the latest ITA Division II national rankings, won their fourth consecutive match as they improved to 5-1 overall and to 1-0 in the Peach Belt. The No. 19 Bobcats slipped to 1-2 and 0-1. Young Harris continues the road trip Saturday (Feb. 25) when they travel to Columbus, Georgia, for a 2 p.m. PBC contest against No. 8-ranked Columbus State University.
The Bobcats won two of the three doubles matches to take the early lead. However, the Mountain Lions stormed back in singles as
Eva Castiglioni and
Elin Rundcrantz picked up straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to give Young Harris a 3-2 lead. Georgia College took wins at No. 3 and 4 to reclaim the lead 4-3; however,
Maria Puerta and
Carol Quevedo picked up straight-set victories at No. 5 and 6 to give Young Harris the match.
