Mountain Lions extinguish Flames 23-1

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Thirteen different players scored at least one goal as the Young Harris College women's lacrosse team picked up a 23-1 Gulf South Conference victory over Lee University Wednesday (Feb. 22) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The match was originally supposed to be played in Cleveland, Tennessee, but overnight rains made their field too wet and the game was switched to Young Harris. As a result, when the teams meet again April 12 that game will be played at Lee.

Young Harris improved to 3-1 on the season and to 2-1 in the Gulf South. The Flames, who are playing in their inaugural season, fell to 0-3 and 0-1. Young Harris will travel to Rome, Georgia, Saturday (Feb. 25) for a 4 p.m. GSC match against Shorter University.

Mary Deatrick led the Mountain Lions with four goals, while Sarah Bialecki, Kendra Parenteau, Erika Cross, Nicole Kernohan, Maddie Peek, Maddie Everhardt, and Rachel Lepine each added two goals for Young Harris, which led 16-0 at the half. Kaylynn Roach, Katie McNutt, Kelsey Dover, Hannah Sacristan and Anna Lummus each accounted for a goal. Bialecki paced the Mountain Lions with five assists, while Parenteau and Roach had two each. Cross, Deatrick, Kernohan, and McNutt also registered an assist.

Cross led the way with three draw controls, while Kirsten Barth, Jordan Cox and Deatrick had two apiece. Julia Darroch earned the win in goal for the Mountain Lions, stopping four shots.
