BREVARD, N.C. | Young Harris College scored 10 goals over the second and third quarters as the Mountain Lions men's lacrosse team recorded a 16-5 victory over Brevard College Saturday (Feb. 18) afternoon at the Brevard Turf Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-3, while the Tornados slipped to 2-2. Young Harris returns to action next Saturday (Feb. 25) when they travel to Tigerville, South Carolina, for a 1 p.m. match against North Greenville University.
Young Harris outshot Brevard 60-19, including a 34-5 margin in the second and third quarters as the Mountain Lions took a 3-2 lead after the opening 15 minutes and turned it into a 13-3 lead after three quarters.
Bruce Silk led YHC with five goals, while
Bevan Pate added four more.
Matty Ledon had three goals, while
Sam Gasta added two scores.
Colin Fitzpatrick and
Duncan Jackson also found the back of the net one each. Ledon and Pate added two assists, while
Chandler Bradley, Silk and
Daniel Zimny added one each.
The Mountain Lions won 20 of the 23 faceoffs contested.
Zac Barrett had nine faceoff wins, while
Zach Stephenson had eight and
Noah Skinner added three more. Young Harris held a 43-19 advantage in ground balls, with Ledon leading the way with six. Stephenson and
Kerry Ostrowski each scooped up five ground balls, while Silk and Jackson each added four more.
Mason King recorded six saves in net for the Mountain Lions, while
Sean Dever and
Alex Schneider added one save apiece.
