FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. | Sam Gasta and
Bevan Pate each scored three goals in the second half as Young Harris College recorded a 12-4 men's lacrosse victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) College Wednesday (Feb. 15) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-3, while the Lions fell to 0-2. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Feb. 18) with a 4 p.m. contest against Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina.
With Young Harris holding a slim 3-2 lead at the half, the Mountain Lions broke open the game in the first 10 minutes of the third quarter, scoring  the first six goals to open up a 9-2 lead.
Cody Bielec and
Bruce Silk scored back-to-back goals in a 13-second span off assists by Gasta to start the decisive spurt. Gasta reeled off the next three YHC goals before
Zach Stephenson scored the final goal in the run with 5:01 to play in the quarter. Emmanuel closed out the quarter with two goals, before Pate added three fourth quuarter insurance goals to give YHC the win.
Pate led the Mountain Lions, who outshot the Lions 36-21, with four goals, while Gasta added three. Silk scored twice, while Stephenson,
Matty Ledon and Bialec accounted for the other goals. Gasta added two assists, while
Chandler Bradley,
Colin Fitzpatrick, Stephenson and
Daniel Zimny had one each. Young Harris won 14 of the 19 faceoffs contested with
Zac Barrett and Stephenson each picking up seven wins. Barrett scooped up four ground balls, while Ledon, Stephenson and Gasta had three apiece.
Mason King earned the win in goal as he stopped nine shots for the Mountain Lions.
