BREVARD, N.C. | Tyler Konzen, Matt Lynch and Brian Kahn each drove in three runs as Brevard College defeated Young Harris College 13-2 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday (Feb. 14) afternoon at Gil Coan Field.
The Tornados improved to 3-6, while the Mountain Lions fell to 2-5. Young Harris returns to Zell B. Miller Field Saturday (Feb. 18) for a noon doubleheader against Auburn University at Montgomery.Â
Young Harris jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning.
Corey Ewald led off with a triple to center field and scored when
Adrik Yacelga followed with a double down the left field line. Yacelga would later come around to score on
Zach Wall's double down the left field line.
Brevard got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on a Kyle Morrison RBI single. The Tornados broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning to take an 8-1 lead. Only three of the runs in the inning were earned thanks to a throwing error. Brevard, which collected 20 hits, added four more runs in the sixth inning and added one more in the seventh.Â
Blake Metivier (0-1) took the loss in relief, while Kristofer Yarbrough (2-0) earned the win with three scoring innings of relief.
Odom and Yacelga had two hits each in the Mountain Lions' 10-hit attack. Four of the 10 hits went for extra bases, including
Zach Wall's double down the left field line in the eighth inning.
