YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College and King (Tenn.) University split a non-conference baseball doubleheader Saturday (Feb. 11) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions took a 14-6 decision in the opener, before the Tornado claimed game two 10-8.Â
Young Harris improved to 1-3, while King fell to 4-2. The two teams conclude the three-game series Sunday (Feb. 12) with a noon contest.
The Mountain Lions jumped out for 12 runs over the first five innings of game one. YHC scored twice in the second and added five runs apiece in the third and fifth innings to take control of the opener as the Mountain Lions hammered out 14 hits.,Â
Zach Wall led the way with three hits - all doubles - and drove in two runs, while
Nick Sexton,
Zach Odom and
Jackson Jones added two hits apiece. Jones led the Mountain Lions with 3 RBI, while Odom and Beggs drove in two each. Beggs swatted a two-run homer to right in the eighth inning for his third long ball. Sexton,
Brett Westmoreland and
Luke Miller recorded doubles as Young Harris had seven extra-base hits.
Michael Livingston (1-1) scattered seven hits and struck out eight over seven innings for the Mountain Lions.
In game two, the opposite was true as the Tornado score in four of the first five innings to open up a 10-3 lead. Young Harris rallied for two runs in the eight and three more in the ninth to get within 10-8 and had the tying run up to the plate, but King was able to preserve the win.
Odom led YHC with three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs. Sexton also had two hits, including a double and drove in two runs. Wall also knocked in two runs for the Mountain Lions, while Beggs hit a solo home run - his fourth of the season - to right field  in the second inning.Â
McLain Harris (0-2) took the loss for the Mountain Lions as he allowed six runs over three innings.
