YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.  |
Alexis Dillard scored six of her game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter for Anderson (S.C.) University as they outscored Young Harris College 14-2 over the final 10 minutes to pick up a 56-43 non-conference women's basketball victory Tuesday (Nov. 28) evening at the YHC Basketball Arena.

The Trojans improved to 5-2 while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-4. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Dec. 2) as they host the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in a 1:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest. It is the PBC opener for both teams.

"Anderson is a really good team.," said YHC head coach Matt Stearsman. "They beat two PBC teams by 43 and 32 earlier this season. We were right there if some shots go in.

"I felt like there was a lid on both ends for us tonight," added Stearsman. "I thought we played really hard. We executed our game plan the way we wanted. We just couldn't make a shot. I feel bad for our kids because we deserved to win due to how hard we played."

Young Harris had a three-point lead (9-6) midway through the first quarter after a made free throw by Ge'Naisha Robinson until Anderson went on a 11-4 run to close out the quarter after a three pointer by Makayla Green to take a 17-13 lead.

Anderson extended their lead to as many as 11 points (40-29) after a Kaylee Koerperich layup with 6:29 remaining in the third quarter. The Mountain Lions fought back with 12 unanswered points to take 41-40 lead on an Eryn Cochran three-pointer with 1:21 left in the third quarter.  Robinson scored eight of her 14 points during the run and Meghan McQuade also nailed a three-pointer during the YHC comeback.

Anderson retook the lead for good 40 seconds later on a pair of free throws by Taylor Hair. That jump-started a 16-2 run by the Trojans to end the game. The Mountain Lions, who shot 23.9 percent (16-of-67) from the floor, only connected on one field goal - a layup by Ashlyn Ellison with 6:55 remaining - in the final quarter.

Dillard led the Trojans with 17 points and picked up nine rebounds. Koerperich added 13 points and six rebounds.

Robinson scored a team-high 14 points and had four steals for the Mountain Lions. Sara Jorgensen tallied seven rebounds and five steals while Briana Bell picked up 10 points and four rebounds.
