HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. |
Young Harris College completed its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional in 16th place Wednesday (May 4) afternoon.

The Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 32 in the latest Golfstat Ratings, shot their best round of the tournament – 301 - on the par 72, 6,928-yard layout at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort's El Campeon course to finish the 54-hole event at 919.

"What a great experience this week," said Young Harris head coach Caleb Kelley. "The results were not what we wanted, but these men battled all week. In a field this strong you have to play flawless to move on, and unfortunately we didn't have our best stuff.

"It's been an incredible year and we have grown so much as a team," added the Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year.  "I'm so thankful for these seniors taking a chance on this program four years ago. It's been a long road full of ups and downs, but they worked hard through it all and help build a solid foundation for the future."

No. 4 Lynn University won the tournament with a score of 863 and was followed by No. 2 Saint Leo University (866), No. 5 Florida Southern University (868), No. 3 University of West Florida (874) and No. 7 Barry University (882). All five teams advance to the finals May 17-21 at Green Valley Ranch in Denver, Colorado as part of the NCAA Division II Spring Sports Festival.

Eli Crumley vaulted 38 spots into a tie for 33rd place as he carded six birdies and posted a two-under par 70 to finish at 225. David Wallin had his best round of the event with a 74 and tied for 70th at 232 while Trey Pearson registered a 79 and came in a tie for 80th place. Senior Clark Melton had a 78 and is tied for 83rd place at 235 while senior Adam Taylor fired an 89 and came in 105th at 249.
