HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Connor Leies and
Matt Spadafora each scored three goals as the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team posted a 14-3 win over the University of Alabama in Huntsville Saturday (April 9) afternoon at Charger Park.
The Mountain Lions recorded their program-best 10th win of the year as they improved to 10-4 while the Chargers fell to 2-7. Young Harris will close out its 2016 campaign with a 2 p.m. contest against rival Shorter University in Rome, Georgia.
Young Harris outscored UAH 4-0 in the first quarter and never looked back. The Mountain Lions also held the Chargers scoreless in the third period.
Garrett Blake and
Matty Ledon added two goals for the Mountain Lions while
Michael Gernatt,
Chandler Bradley,
Ian Hurley and
Zach Hemans each found the back of the net once. Blake and Gernatt paced YHC with two assists while
Benji Lapinski, Ledon, Leies,
Mitch McDole and Spadafora.
Young Harris dominated UAH in shots (30-18), ground balls (28-12) and face-offs (19-2).
Zac Barrett won each of his 11 face-offs while
Zach Stephenson claimed eight wins. Ledon led the Mountain Lions with six ground balls while Stephenson and
E.J. de la Torre each scooped up four apiece.
Ryan Pickowitz (three),
Mason King (one) and
Alex Schneider combined for four saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
