MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College scored five times in the seventh inning to rally for a 10-9 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Young Harris College Friday (April 22) evening at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats improved to 25-16 overall and to 14-11 in the Peach Belt while Young Harris fell to 12-33 and 6-19. The two teams play the middle game of their weekend series Saturday (April 23) at 7 p.m.
Georgia College jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first before the Mountain Lions tied the game at 2 in their next at-bat as
Troy Kizer laced a two-run homer to left field. It was Kizer's sixth of the 2016 campaign.
Young Harris took a 6-2 lead in the fourth as
Nick Sexton slapped a grand slam over the left field wall. It was Sexton's sixth long ball of the season.
Georgia College two back in their half of the inning before Young Harris expanded its lead to 9-4 with a three-run fifth inning.
Jimmy Pinakidis had a RBI double to left field before
Chris McGinnis added a two-run double to center.
The Bobcats added a run in the fifth to trim the YHC lead down to four at 9-5 before they exploded for five runs in the seventh inning. Matthew Miller got Georgia College back in the game with his bases-clearing triple to right-center field to pull the Bobcats within a run at 9-8. An RBI single from Brandon Benson tied the game at 9 before Wesley Wommack singled home the go-ahead run.
Cameron Busby (9-2) earned the win with four innings of relief while striking out five. Chris Gammon earned his seventh save of 2016 as he struck out the side in the ninth.
Cody Beck (2-5) took the loss in relief.
Young Harris had nine hits against the Bobcats with Kizer leading the way with two.
