Bobcats rally late for 6-3 win over Mountain Lions

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College scored three times in the seventh inning to defeat Young Harris College 6-3 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday (April 23) evening at John Kurtz Field.

The Bobcats improved to 26-16 overall and to 15-11 in the PBC while the Mountain Lions slipped to 12-34 and 6-20. The teams will wrap up their weekend series with a 1 p.m. contest Sunday (April 24).

With the score tied at 3, Georgia College took advantage of three Young Harris errors in the seventh to score three unearned runs to open up a 6-3 lead. Matthew Miller had a RBI single back up the middle and Brandon Benson drove in another run on a double to left-center off YHC starter Donald Frew (3-7).

Young Harris took a quick 1-0 lead in the first on Zach Wall's single to center field, scoring Nick Sexton who had reached on a double.

The Bobcats opened up a 3-1 lead after posting two runs in the second and adding another one an inning later. Young Harris would tie it at 3 in the fourth on Troy Kizer's two-run homer to left-center field. It was Kizer's seventh blast of the 2016 campaign. Wall scored on the play after reaching base on a GC fielding error.

Georgia College starter Charlie Hecht (6-2) earned the win as he struck out nine in eight innings while reliever Chris Gammon pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up his eighth save of the season.

Sexton had three of the seven hits by the Mountain Lions while Kizer tallied two more.
