Brevard pulls away late from Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. |  The top five hitters in the Brevard College lineup had 13 hits and drove in nine runs as the Tornados pulled away from Young Harris College 14-7 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday (April 20) evening at Zell B. Miller Field.

The Tornados improved to 14-32 while the Mountain Lions fell to 12-32. Young Harris travels to Milledgeville, Georgia, for a 7 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest against Georgia College Friday (April 22) to open a weekend three-game series.

Young Harris took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second. Zach Odom doubled home the first run while Luke Miller singled through the right side to drive in the other two runs.

The Mountain Lions added run in the fifth on a wild pitch before pulling with a run at 7-6 after Young Harris scored twice in the sixth inning. Miller had a RBI double to left field while Zach Beggs drove in the other on a single to right.

The Tornados broke the game open with seven runs over the next three innings to take a 14-6 lead before the Mountain Lions scored their final run on a Caleb Moore ninth inning infield single.

Young Harris collected 14 hits as Miller and Beggs led three apiece. Triston Smith added two hits, including a double.

Jay Phillips (3-4) earned the win in relief for Brevard while YHC starter Jackson Winskie (0-4) took the loss.
