ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Young Harris College came in seventh place at the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship Sunday (April 17) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions, who are listed No. 25 in the Golfstat Ratings and No. 5 in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Rankings, shot 313 in the final round on the par 72, 6,936-yard layout at the World Golf Village's Slammer and Squire Course to complete the 54-hole championship with a score of 911.
No. 32 Columbus State University won the championship with a score of 873 and earned the PBC's automatic berth to the NCAA regionals next month. The Cougars held off No. 15 Flagler College (875) by two strokes while No. 12 University of South Carolina Aiken finished in third place at 892. No. 18 Georgia Southwestern State University shot 898 and finished in fourth followed by No. 38 Lander University (899) and Armstrong State University (903).
Lander's Michal Pospisil earned medalist honors as he shot 214 for the championship, a stroke better than two other golfers.
PBC Golfer of the Year
David Wallin was the top finisher for the Mountain Lions as he shot 74 and came in 10th place at 222. All-PBC performer
Trey Pearson also picked up a top-20 finish as he came in a tie for 20th place at 228 after posting a 78 in the final round.
Eli Crumley, who was an All-PBC performer, carded a 79 and finished in a tie for 23rd place at 230.
Clark Melton finished in 36th place at 233 after an 84 while
Adam Taylor had an 82 and came in 49th place at 240.
The Mountain Lions will find out Friday (April 22) evening if they will earn one of the seven at-large berths from the Southeast region for the NCAA Division II Championship which starts May 2-4 with the South/Southeast Super Regional in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
