Montevallo rallies in ninth inning for 6-5 win over Young Harris

MONTEVALLO, Ala. | Jeremy Hyde hit a game-winning home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the University of Montevallo a 6-5 come-from-behind Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Young Harris College Friday (April 15) evening at Johnson Field.

The Falcons improved to 22-22 overall and to 13-12 in the Peach Belt while the Mountain Lions fell to 12-28 and 6-16. The two teams will play the middle game of their weekend series Saturday (April 16) at 2 p.m. Central time.

Hyde's homer to right-center field off YHC reliever Cole Amtmann (0-3) culminated a four-run rally in Montevallo's final at-bat as the Falcons overcame a 5-2 deficit entering the inning.

Montevallo took a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Young Harris got on a run back in the third inning as Zach Odom led off with a home run – his second of the 2016 campaign – to left field.

The Mountain Lions took the lead in the fifth as Brett Westmoreland connected on a two-run home run to left field. It was Westmoreland's third long ball of the year.

Young Harris pushed its lead to 5-2 with two more runs in the sixth as Nick Sexton and Zach Wall hit back-to-back RBI doubles.

The Mountain Lions outhit the Falcons 9-7. Odom, Wall and Westmoreland each collected two hits apiece.
