Pioneers pick up 9-5 win over Mountain Lions

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Zach Finchum and Jeovanny Tolentino each drove in two runs apiece as Tusculum College held off Young Harris College 9-5 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday (April 12) evening at Zell B. Miller Field.

The Pioneers improved to 29-11 while the Mountain Lions fell to 12-26. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (April 13) with a 6 p.m. contest against Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Tusculum took a 1-0 lead on a Tolentino sacrifice fly in the second inning off YHC starter Aaron Barfield.

Young Harris took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the inning. Troy Kizer drove In the first run with his single to left field. Kizer scored the other run when he came around on a throwing error after Jared Campbell reached on an infield single.

The Pioneers scored three runs in the third to open up a 4-2. Tusculum tied the game on a wild pitch and got RBI ground outs from John Topoleski and Finchum.

Tusculum, which collected 15 hits in the game, scored five runs over the final three innings to expand its lead to 9-2 before the Mountain Lions scored three times in their final at bat. Zach Beggs started the rally with an one-out single to left before Kizer, who led the Mountain Lions with two hits, hit a home run to left center field. It was Kizer's fifth long ball of the 2016 campaign.  YHC's final run came in on a wild pitch.

Zach Slagle (6-1) struck out five in six innings to earn the win for the Pioneers.
