DAVENPORT, Fla. | Erin Wilcox and Kaytlin Callaghan each scored four goals to lead Slippery Rock University past Young Harris College in a women's lacrosse match Tuesday (March 8) afternoon at Northeast Regional Park.

The Rock improved to 2-0 while the Mountain Lions fell to 4-3. Young Harris returns to action Friday (March 11) when they play Florida Tech in Melbourne, Florida, at 7 p.m.

The match was one of streaks. Young Harris took an early 3-0 lead nine minutes in.
Maddie Peek and
Nicole Kernohan scored man-up goals on free-position shots and
Taylor Lincoln accounted for the other score.

Slippery Rock responded with five unanswered goals over the next eight minutes to take a 5-3 lead. Young Harris tied the game at 5 with 8:35 remaining in the first half as
Jaclyn Kernohan and
Nicole Kernohan found the back of the net.

The Rock took control of the match as they scored eight consecutive goals over the end of the first half and beginning of the second half to take a 13-5 lead with 19:18 to play. However, the Mountain Lions pulled to within three at 13-19 with 9:51 left as Young Harris reeled off five unanswered goals – two by
Jaclyn Kernohan and one each by
Kaylynn Roach,
Meghan Tonnesen and
Rachel Lepine.

Slippery Rock thwarted the YHC rally as they scored the final five goals.

Tonnesen won three draw controls while
Kendra Parenteau and
Jaclyn Kernohan had two each. Lepine and
Erika Cross each scooped up three ground balls for the Mountain Lions, who had 16 in the match. Goalie
Julia Darroch picked up a career-high 13 saves in net for Young Harris.
