Potent offensive attack leads Mountain Lions to fifth consecutive win

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College scored 10 unanswered goals as the Mountain Lions picked up their fifth consecutive men's lacrosse victory with their 17-7 Education Day decision over Notre Dame de Namur University Wednesday (March 9) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
                                      
The Mountain Lions improved to 5-3 while the Argonauts fell to 2-5. Young Harris returns to action March 19 when they host Colorado State University –Pueblo at 3 p.m.
 
Michael Gernatt scored two of his first three goals in the opening two minutes of the match to give Young Harris a 2-0 lead. The Argonauts tied the game at 2 on goals by Justin Eggiman and Alex Campbell over the next two minutes.
 
The teams would go the next 13 minutes scoreless until Connor Leies, who leads the Mountain Lions with 26 goals, found the back of the net with 12:43 remaining in the first half. That opened the floodgates for Young Harris, which outshot the Argonauts 52-32, as Matty Ledon, Leies and Garrett Blake added goals as YHC took a 6-2 lead at the half.
 
Leies and Jayden Campbell each scored twice in the third quarter to go along with goals from Gernatt and Matt Spadafora as Young Harris took a 12-2 lead 3:52 remaining in the period.
 
Leies added two more goals in the final quarter for the Mountain Lions while Ian Hurley and Chandler Bradley added scores.
 
Gernatt, Ledon and Spadafora led Young Harris with two assists while Blake contributed one.
 
Zach Stephenson (eight), Zac Barrett (seven) and Ledon (one) tallied 16 face-off wins (out of 23) for the Mountain Lions. Leies led YHC with six ground balls while Stephenson scoped up five. E.J. de la Torre, Blake and Mitch McDole each picked up three ground balls for the Mountain Lions.
 
Mason King picked up 11 saves for the Mountain Lions in goal while Ryan Pickowitz registered two.
