YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Matt Spadafora scored four goals to lead Young Harris College past Colorado State University-Pueblo 16-9 in a non-conference men's lacrosse match Saturday (March 19) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions streaked to their sixth consecutive win as they improved to 6-3 while the ThunderWolves remained winless in four tries.
The lead see-sawed back and forth in the first quarter as the ThunderWolves led 6-5 at the end of the period. The Mountain Lions responded by score the first five goals of the second quarter to open up a 10-6 lead on a
Jayden Campbell score with 3:16 remaining in the first half.
A CSU-Pueblo goal trimmed the lead to 10-7 at the half, but Young Harris scored three consecutive goals, including two from Spadafora, to take a 13-7 lead with 10:25 remaining in the period.
Connor Leies added three goals for the Mountain Lions while
Garrett Blake,
Mitch McDole,
Michael Gernatt and Campbell contributed two scores apiece.
Matty Ledon accounted for the YHC score. Leies led the Mountain Lions with three assists while
Chandler Bradley added two more while Blake,
Julian Infanti and McDole had one each.
Young Harris held a 45-32 advantage on shots and a 30-29 edge in ground balls. CSU-Pueblo won 17 of the 28 face-offs.
Zac Barrett picked up eight face-off victories for Young Harris while
Zach Stephenson won two. Leies picked up six ground balls while
E.J. de la Torre, Ledon, Barrett, and
Darrien Mask each scooped up three apiece.
Mason King recorded 10 saves in the Mountain Lion goal.
