GREENEVILLE, Tenn. | Dante Key hit a home run as Tusculum College defeated Young Harris College 5-2 in a non-conference baseball contest Tuesday (March 8) afternoon at Pioneer Park.
Â
The Pioneers improved to 13-6 while the Mountain Lions slipped to 6-12. Young Harris returns to action Friday (March 11) when they host Peach Belt Conference-foe Flagler College in a 6 p.m. contest at Zell B. Miller Field.
Â
Tusculum took a 3-0 lead in the first inning off Young Harris starter
Johnny Spring (0-1). Kevin Victoriano drove in the first run on an RBI double while Key followed with a two-run homer – his second of the season – to right field.
Â
The Mountain Lions got a run back in the third on a
Casey Selfe single to right field that scored
Jared Campbell, who started the rally with a walk.
Zach Odom moved Campbell on his double to left field.
Â
The Pioneers added run on a double play in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Young Harris pushed across a run in the eighth inning. Selfe started the two-out rally with a single and came around to score on
Nick Sexton's RBI double to left field, but that was as close as Young Harris would get.
Â
Selfe and
Luke Miller led Young Harris with two hits apiece.
Â
Zach Slagle (2-1) earned the win for the Pioneers as he struck out five in six innings, while Devan Watts earned his second save of 2016.
