Â
The Mountain Lions improved to 8-7 overall and to 6-0 in the Peach Belt while the Hurricanes fell to 6-7 and 2-4. Young Harris remains on the road for a 7:30 p.m. Central time contest in Montevallo, Alabama, Wednesday (Jan. 13) against 2015 PBC champion University of Montevallo.
Â
Wilson led Young Harris with 25 points, eight assists and six rebounds while Roberts added a career-high 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor. Roberts also grabbed nine rebounds and registered four blocked shots.
Â
Marques McKoy grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and added seven points.
Ben Waterhouse added nine points while
Bjorn Walker posted eight.
Â
"It was a great team win on the road," said Young Harris head coach
Pete Herrmann. "It was good to see everyone contribute and not have to rely on C.J. It was nice to see Marcellus play well. We played solid defense tonight. Marcellus had some big blocks, Marques getting the rebounds and Ben is shutting down the other team's top player."
Â
The Mountain Lions opened up a 10-point lead (21-11) with 7:44 remaining in the first half on an old-fashioned three-point play from McKoy. Young Harris pushed its lead to as many as 14 points (31-17) on a Roberts dunk with 3:33 to go, but the Hurricanes rallied to cut the deficit to 33-29 at the half.
Â
Georgia Southwestern took its first lead of the second half (36-35) on Brandon Price's three-pointer with 18:05 left. From that point the team's traded the leady back and forth until the Mountain Lions, who are 4-0 all-time against the Hurricanes in the Storm Dome, took the lead for good 49-58 on a McKoy layup with 13:42 to play.
Â
That basket started a 10-0 run by the Mountain Lions, who went 22-of-25 from the charity stripe, that saw them take a 57-48 lead on a Roberts free throw with 11:14 to go. The Hurricanes trimmed the lead down to a point at 69-68 on a Devin Watson layup with 4:59 remaining, but that would be as close as they would get.
Â
Jure Gunjina led Georgia Southwestern with 17 points, while Damien Leonard (13), Chandler Thomas (12), Price (12) and Adam Thoseby (10) also finished in double figures.
