Falcons defeat Mountain Lions 79-59

MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The University of Montevallo led from wire-to-wire and recorded a 79-59 Peach Belt Conference men's basketball victory over Young Harris College Wednesday (Jan. 13) evening at Trustmark Arena.

The Falcons, who have recorded six straight wins over Young Harris, improved to 8-6 overall and to 4-3 in the league while the Mountain Lions suffered their first PBC loss as they fell to 8-8 and 6-1. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Jan. 19) at 3:30 p.m. when they host PBC-foe Francis Marion University at the YHC Basketball Arena.

Montevallo used a 16-2 run to open up a 34-13 lead on a Malik Fields layup with 9:43 remaining. Fields scored seven points during the decided run. Young Harris fought back and closed to within 10 points (41-31) as C.J. Wilson used an old-fashioned three-point play right before the half.

The Mountain Lions trimmed the deficit down to single digits – nine points (44-35) - on a Marcellus Roberts jumper with 17:19 to play. However, that would be as close as they would get as Montevallo used an 11-2 run to open up a 55-37 advantage on a Talan Whitaker layup with 14:32 left.  Montevallo, which scored 22 points off YHC's 17 turnovers, led by as many as 25 points in the latter stages of the contest.

Terrell Lipkins led the Falcons with 27 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the floor and added eight assists. Kevin Kelly added 13 points while Bryant Orange (12) and Fields (10) finished in double figures.

Wilson was the top scorer for Young Harris with 19 points while J.B. Charles added 12 more. Bjorn Walker also finished in double figures with 10.
