TOCCOA, Ga. – Young Harris College took a 4-1 non-conference baseball victory over Toccoa Falls College Wednesday (April 8) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions improved to 13-23 while the Eagles fell to 15-17. Young Harris will host cross-mountain rival University of North Georgia, at Zell B. Miller Field in a Peach Belt Conference contest at 6 p.m. Friday (April 8).
Young Harris took a 1-0 lead on Brett Westmoreland's first inning home run that cleared the scoreboard in left field. The Mountain Lions added three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. After Westmoreland, who went 3-for-3, singled, Logan Bell, who went 2-for-3, followed with a two-run homer to left. Troy Kizer followed with a double and later scored on an error.
Michael Livingston (1-2) allowed three hits and didn't allow a runner past second base in seven innings. Livingston was aided by the Mountain Lions turning three double plays.
"Livingston threw a great game for us today," said YHC head coach Travis Huffman. "He kept the ball down in the zone and never gave Toccoa a chance to get anything going offensively. We made a few errors but got out innings three different times with double plays. Offensively we got a couple big home runs from Westmoreland and Bell to take control of the game early on."
