YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of North Georgia swept a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader from its cross-mountain rival Young Harris College Saturday (April 11) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The No. 26-ranked Nighthawks took the opener 11-2 before taking a 4-1 decision in the nightcap.
UNG improved to 25-11 overall and to 17-6 in the Peach Belt while the Mountain Lions fell to 13-25 and 7-16. The two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a 1 p.m. contest Sunday (April 12).
North Georgia got three homers – two from Sam Tidaback and another from Tremayne Toorie – in the opener and then broke the game open with six unearned runs in the third inning as YHC committed five errors in the frame.
Young Harris got a run-scoring single by Michael Livingston, who led the Mountain Lions with two hits, in the second and another run in the seventh on Nick Sexton's ground out.
Brandon Agar (4-3) earned the win for the Nighthawks with six strikeouts in the complete-game effort while Justin Cooper (4-5) took the loss.
The Nighthawks hit three more homers in the second game – two from Toorie and another from Tidaback. Toorie gave UNG a 2-0 lead in the first off Donald Frew (2-4) on his homer to left.
Young Harris got a run back in its half of the first on Zach Odom RBI single to left-center field. It would stay that way until Toorie and Tidaback hit back-to-back solo homers in the ninth inning.
Sexton and Zach Wall each had two hits for the Mountain Lions in game two.
Jacob Beauchamp (6-2) earned the win while Chris Cobb earned his fourth save of 2015.
