YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of North Georgia jumped out to an early six-run lead as the No. 26 Nighthawks recorded a 7-2 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Young Harris College Sunday (April 12) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
UNG improved to 26-11 overall and to 18-6 in the Peach Belt while the Mountain Lions fell to 13-26 and 7-17. Young Harris will travel to Brevard, North Carolina, Wednesday (April 15) for a 3 p.m. contest against Brevard College.
North Georgia took a 2-0 lead on Tremayne Toorie's double to left-center field in the first inning off YHC starter Cole Amtmann (1-7). The Nighthawks added single runs in the second and fourth innings before added two more in the fifth to open up a 6-0 lead. Connor Hoover had a RBI single in the second before Joey Cecere contributed a RBI double to right-center field in the fourth.
Young Harris got two runs back in its half of the fifth as Jimmy Pinakidis doubled down the right-field line and Brett Westmoreland added a RBI single up the middle. UNG got its final run on Andrew Gordon's homer to left-center field in the ninth inning.
Dylan Peppers (4-2) struck out seven in six innings to pick up the win for the Nighthawks.
Westmoreland and Spencer Thomas led the Mountain Lions with two hits.
