GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Young Harris College men's golf team finished in third place at the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Championship Sunday (April 19) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions, who were making their first-ever appearance in the championship, shot a record-setting round of nine-under par 279 on the par 72, 6,851-yard layout at the Greenwood Country Club in the second round Saturday (April 18) to move into third place with a three-under par score of 573.
The team score of 279 is a single-round team record in the PBC Championship. The previous low was set by 280 by Columbus State University in 1998. The 279 score also set an YHC record (NCAA era) for low round, while the 573 tied the 36-hole record.
The final round Sunday (April 19) could not be completed due to heavy rain and wind and was cancelled. No. 6 Flagler won the event with a score of 566, two strokes clear of the University of South Carolina Aiken at 568.
Senior Linus Manntz led the charge for the Mountain Lions as he fired a personal-best six-under par round of 66 to finish in a tie for third place at 140, earning all-tournament accolades. The 140 score for 36 holes was also a personal best for Manntz, who tore up the back nine as he made six birdies – four in one stretch of holes – and one bogey.
Eli Crumley, who made four birdies on the back nine, finished with a two-under par 70 as he finished in a tie for 15th place at 144. Trey Pearson carded a 76 in the second round and finished in a tie for 22nd place at 146, while All-Peach Belt performer David Wallin fired a one-under par score of 71 and finished in a tie for 28th at 147 while Clark Melton tied for 32nd place a stroke back at 148 after an even-par 72.
