GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Young Harris College set individual and team records for low rounds in the NCAA era as the Mountain Lions lead the 18-team Tusculum Invitational after the first round Saturday (Match 7) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions shot three-under par 281 on the par 71, 6,733-yard layout on the Link Hills Country Club to lead by Lincoln Memorial University by nine strokes. The 281 score surpasses the previous 18-hole low score of 283 set in two different tournaments this season.
Clark Melton holds a four-stroke lead after firing a career-low round of six-under par 65. The 65 surpasses the YHC individual low round of 67 set by teammate David Wallin earlier in the year. Clark Melton's 65 also set a new Tusculum Invitational opening-round record, breaking the previous mark of 66 set by Tusculum College's Chris Wynne in the 2006 event.
Eli Crumley and Linus Manntz each fired a one-under par 70 and are tied for third place while Wallin shot a 76 and is tied for 36th place. Trey Pearson carded a 79 and is tied for 59th.
The 36-hole tournament concludes Sunday (March 8) with an 11 a.m. shotgun start.
