PEMBROKE, N.C. – Collins Cuthrell and Billy Vaughn each homered as the University of North Carolina at Pembroke recorded an 8-1 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Young Harris College Sunday (March 29) afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.
The Braves improved to 24-7 overall and to 12-6 in the Peach Belt while the Mountain Lions slipped to 10-21 and 7-14. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (April 1) with a 6 p.m. non-conference contest against Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Young Harris took a 1-0 lead in the second off UNCP starter Connor Pratt (4-1) when Troy Kizer led off with a double to right and later scored on a Michael Livingston ground out.
UNCP responded by scoring four times in the third and fourth innings against YHC starter Justin Cooper (3-4). Dalton Knight tied the game at 1 on a Dalton Knight single. Zade Denton added a two-run double in the third before Christian Snider added a sacrifice fly.
Vaughn led off the fourth with a homer to left center and Cuthrell added a two-run shot – his 18th of the season.
Nick Sexton and Blake Suggs led Young Harris with two hits apiece.
