Records fall as Young Harris pick up 26-11 win against Ohio Valley

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. – Records fell as the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team easily defeated Ohio Valley University 26-11 Saturday (March 21) at Stadium Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 4-5 while the Fighting Scots remained winless in eight tries. Young Harris returns to action Sunday (March 22) with a 2 p.m. contest against Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia.

The Mountain Lions set records for goals (26), assists (19), points (45) and face-offs won (33).

Ohio Valley scored the game's first two goals before the Mountain Lions scored the final three goals of the first quarter to take a 3-2 lead on Michael Gernatt's goal with 1:01 left.

The Mountain Lions broke the match open with a 10-goal second quarter performance to take a 13-8 lead at the half. Young Harris didn't take its foot off the pedal as the Mountain Lions outscored Ohio Valley 13-3 in the second half.

Mitch McDole led YHC with six goals while Jayden Campbell, Matt Spadafora and Chandler Bradley each found the back of the net three times. Gernatt, Matty Ledon and Michael Holder scored twice apiece while Ian Hurley, Mason McBroom, Tanner Fant, Kerry Ostrowski and Connor Pittman had a goal each.

Gernatt had three assists, while Campbell, Hurley, Billy Magill, McBroom and Spadafora had two apiece. Joe Appolonia, Fant, Holder, Stephen Jordan, Ledon and McDole registered an assist each.

Ledon led Young Harris with 17 face-off wins while Zac Barrett added 13 wins. Ledon collected 11 ground balls while Barrett scooped up five. Will Peek and McDole corralled four ground balls while Zack Hathaway had three more.

Sean Dever (four) and Brock Lohnes (one) tallied five saves in net for the Mountain Lions.
