Mountain Lions battle past Alderson Broaddus 10-7

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Young Harris College scored five of the first six goals of the match as the Mountain Lions recorded a 10-7 men's lacrosse victory over Alderson Broaddus University Sunday (March 22) afternoon at Battler Stadium.                                                    

The Mountain Lions improved to 5-5 and they will return to action Saturday (March 28) with a 2 p.m. match against Emmanuel (Ga.) College in Franklin Springs, Georgia.

Young Harris took a 2-0 lead after the first quarter as Billy Magill and Jayden Campbell each scored. After a Battler goal, the Mountain Lions got scores from Campbell, Michael Gernatt and Magill to open up a 5-1 lead with 9:19 remaining before the half.

Alderson Broaddus reeled off four unanswered goals in the third quarter to pull within a goal at 8-7, but Chandler Bradley added two insurance goals for the Mountain Lions, who held the Battlers without a goal the final 18:35 of the match.

Bradley led the Mountain Lions with three goals while Campbell and Magill had two each. Gernatt, Liam Cunningham, and Mason McBroom found the back of the net once. Gernatt added three assists while Bradley had one.

Zac Barrett recorded eight face-off wins while Zack Hathaway had six ground balls. Barrett and Kerry Ostrowski also collected three ground balls apiece.

Ryan Pickowitz tallied 12 saves in net for the Mountain Lions.
