No. 11 Saints salvage series finale against the Mountain Lions

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – No. 11 Flagler College salvaged the third game of the Peach Belt Conference baseball weekend series with Young Harris College with a 7-2 victory Sunday (March 15) afternoon at Drysdale Field.

Flagler improved to 19-4 overall and 11-3 in the Peach Belt. Young Harris fell to 10-13 overall and 7-8 in conference play. The Mountain Lions return to action Wednesday (March 18) with a 4 p.m. non-conference affair against North Greenville University in Tigerville, South Carolina.

After the Mountain Lions scored an unearned run in the first inning, the Saints bounced back with two runs in the bottom half. Andrew Brodbeck, who led off with a walk, scored on a double play and Todd Juliano followed with a single to score Kolin McMillen from third base to give Flagler a 2-1 lead.

The Saints scratched two more runs in the second with the help of an RBI-double by Brodbeck and a run-scoring single by Lorenzo Butler.

That would be all of the offense Flagler pitcher Michael Maiocco (5-0) would need to secure the win. He tossed six innings, scattered four hits and allowed one unearned run. Maiocco fanned eight batters. He retired 12 of the last 14 batters he faced. Chris Lake and Justin Ratte closed out the game.

McMillen went 4-for-5 with a double and one run scored. Juliano went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, three runs batted in and he scored two runs. Brodbeck scored a pair of runs.

Cole Amtmann (1-3) tossed 2.2 innings, allowed seven hits and five runs. William Leatherwood pitched three innings in relief before giving way to Brent Thomas and Cody Ching.

Triston Smith collected a pair of singles for Young Harris. Zach Wall and Spencer Thomas each hit a double.
