TIGERVILLE, S.C. – North Greenville University used two big innings to hold off Young Harris College 11-7 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday (March 18) afternoon at Ashmore Field.
The Crusaders improved to 15-13 while the Mountain Lions slipped to 10-14. Young Harris returns to Zell B. Miller Field Saturday (March 21) for a 1 p.m. Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Francis Marion University.
Young Harris jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the third inning before North Greenville scored six times in the bottom of the third.
Blake Suggs had a run-scoring single in the first for the Mountain Lions before Brett Westmoreland hit the first of his two home runs of the day – a two-run shot – in the third. Westmoreland has seven homers this season.
Young Harris got back within a run in the eighth inning when Nick Sexton had an RBI double and Zach Odom added an RBI sacrifice bunt to pull the Mountain Lions to within 8-7; however, the Crusaders scored three runs in their half of the inning.
Shane Bishop earned the win in relief for North Greenville while Michael Livingston (0-2) took the loss for Young Harris.
Odom and Westmoreland led the Mountain Lions with two hits each. Westmoreland drove in three runs, while Odom knocked in two.
