YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Shorter University collected 27 hits as the Hawks defeated Young Harris College 19-8 in a non-conference baseball game Sunday (Feb. 8) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.

The Hawks salvaged the final game of the three-game set as they improved to 1-2 while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-3. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Feb. 11) when they host Tusculum College in a 3 p.m. contest.

Every starter in the Shorter lineup collected at least one hit. Dylan Riner and Brian Cabrera each led the Hawks, who scored in every inning but the first and the eighth, with five hits while Zach Santos added four more. Patrick Sanderson hit a three-run homer in the second inning while Santos added a three-run homer in the ninth inning as he drove in five runs. Cabrera also drove in four runs.

Brett Westmoreland led Young Harris with three hits and drove in two runs. Troy Kizer drove in three runs for the Mountain Lions while Zach Odom had two hits. Jimmy Pinakidis added a solo home run to right-center field in the fifth inning.

Blake Weir (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Hawks while reliever Dylan Gibeau (0-1) took the loss for Young Harris.
