Tusculum gets past Mountain Lions 13-4

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Tusculum College hit three home runs as the Pioneers defeated Young Harris College 13-4 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday (Feb. 11) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.

The Pioneers improved to 4-3 while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-4. Young Harris commences a 10-game road trip Saturday (Feb. 14) when they begin Peach Belt Conference play with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia.

Jalen Shuffler led off the game with a home run – his third of the season - to right-center against YHC starter Michael Livingston (0-1) and Kevin Victoriano added a two-run shot down the right field to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Tusculum added a three-run inside-the-park home run by Andrew Bowerman in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead. Bowerman led the 15-hit attack by the Pioneers with four hits while Victoriano had three.

Young Harris pushed across four runs on six hits in the sixth inning. Brett Westmoreland hit his second homer of 2015 – a two-run blast to left field – while Tyler Washington drove in the other two with his single through the right side to score Spencer Thomas and Troy Kizer, who each reached on singles.

Washington and Westmoreland each accounted for two hits for the Mountain Lions.

McKenly Berry (1-1) earned the win with five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out three.
