YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College opened their women's lacrosse season with a commanding 23-9 victory over Erskine College Saturday (Feb. 7) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions, who set the college record with the 23 goals, improved to 1-0 while the Flying Fleet fell to 0-1. Young Harris returns to action next Saturday (Feb. 14) when they travel to Athens, Tennessee, for a noon match against Tennessee Wesleyan College.
"I'm extremely happy with the way the girls played," said Young Harris head coach Katie Ziek. "We had some transitions that started with our draw controls and defensive unit that pushed the momentum of the game in our favor. I am very proud of the teamwork they displayed today."
Taylor Lincoln, who finished the match with four goals, set the pace by scoring the first two Mountain Lion goals. Amanda Kernohan notched six goals, four in the second half, as Young Harris built up a 10-3 lead at the break. Katie McNutt added three goals and an assist while Alexia Audet contributed two goals and two assists.
Rachel Lepine (six), Kendra Parenteau (six) and Jaclyn Kernohan (five) helped the Mountain Lions dominate the draw controls against the Flying Fleet.
Goalie Sarah Nudelman recorded seven saves between the pipes for Young Harris.
