YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Liam Cunninghaam and Billy Magill each scored three goals as Young Harris College recorded an 18-5 men's lacrosse victory over Lees-McRae College Saturday (Feb. 28) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-2 and will return to action Friday (March 6) with a 7 p.m. home match against Wheeling Jesuit University. The Bobcats remained winless in three tries.
Young Harris scored nine of the first 10 goals as they jumped out to a 9-1 lead on a Magill goal off a Mason McBroom assist with 3:29 left in the first half. Cunningham scored all three of his goals during this stretch for Young Harris.
The Mountain Lions had a 10-2 lead at the half and extended it to 16-4 lead midway through the fourth quarter as YHC scored six unanswered goals.
Jayden Campbell, Michael Gernatt and Tanner Fant each scored twice while McBroom, Michael Holder, Nick Shumate, Matt Spadafora, Jake Dunlop and Connor Pittman accounted for the other scores. Joe Appolonia and Campbell led the Mountain Lions with three assists, while Gernatt and Ian Hurley had two apiece. Holder, McBroom and Shumate each added an assist.
Goalies Ryan Pickowitz (one), Sean Dever (three) and Brock Lohnes (five) combined for nine saves in net for YHC. Zac Barrett, Shumate and Matty Ledon each won five face-offs for the Mountain Lions. Gernatt and Kerry Ostrowski each scooped up three ground balls for Young Harris.
Senior Kyle Henize, who had one ground ball and caused two turnovers, was honored in halftime ceremonies.
