YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Eight different players scored as Young Harris College recorded an 18-3 women's lacrosse victory over the University of Virginia's College at Wise Saturday (Feb. 28) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 4-0 and will return to action Saturday (March 7) when they host Gannon University at 1 p.m. The Cavaliers fell to 0-1.
Young Harris took control of the match as the Mountain Lions scored the first nine goals – two by Jaclyn Kernohan and two more by Nicole Kernohan – in the opening 16 minutes. After Virginia-Wise scored its first goal, the Mountain Lions scored eight more unanswered goals – two by Kendra Parenteau and two by Alexis Audet – to open up a 17-1 lead with 8:25 remaining in the contest.
Nicole Kernohan led the Mountain Lions with four goals, while Audet and Parenteau added three apiece. Katie McNutt, Jaclyn Kernohan and Meghan Tonnesen each scored twice while Anna Kate Dulaney and Eli Flaig accounted for the other scores. Audet led Young Harris with three assists while Amanda Kernohan, Nicole Kernohan and McNutt had two apiece. Jordana Freitas, Jaclyn Kernohan and Anna Lummus also recorded an assist.
Rachel Lepine had three draw controls while Taylor Lincoln, Flaig and Parenteau had two apiece. Jessica DuBose led the way with six ground balls while Anna Kate Dulaney and Jordana Freitas each scooped up four ground balls. Jade Smith and Lepine each accounted for three more ground balls apiece.
Goalie Sarah Nudelman had eight saves in net for the Mountain Lions.
