BREVARD, N.C. – Mitch McDole scored four goals and Jayden Campbell added three more as the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team picked up their first win of 2015 with a 10-8 victory over Brevard College Saturday (Feb. 21) afternoon at Brevard High School.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-2 and they will return to action next Saturday (Feb. 28) when they host Lees-McRae College in a noon start at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field. The Tornados fell to 3-1.
Brevard had taken an 8-6 lead at the half after they scored four unanswered goals to end the first half. Young Harris tied the game at 8 as Michael Gernatt scored back-to-back goals with 6:30 left in third quarter. McDole gave the Mountain Lions the lead at 9-8 on a man-up goal 30 seconds into the fourth quarter off an assist from Jeff Rivait. McDole pushed the YHC advantage to two goals off a Billy Magill assist with 10:54 to play.
After Brevard got a man-down goal to pull within one four minutes later, the Mountain Lions added an insurance goal by Mason McBroom off a Chandler Bradley assist to seal the win with 3:23 to play.
Sean Dever (eight) and Ryan Pickowitz (five) combined to stop 13 shots in goal for the Mountain Lions. Zach Barrett won seven face-offs and had six ground balls. McDole added four ground balls while Bradley and Kerry Ostrowski each scooped up three.
