Late Clayton State rally spoils Senior Day for Mountain Lions

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Clayton State University used an 18-4 run in the latter stages of the second half to record a 75-65 Peach Belt Conference women's basketball victory over Young Harris College Saturday (Feb. 21) afternoon at the YHC Basketball Arena.

The Mountain Lions recognized their eight seniors – student assistant Ashley Knox, Kaycee Cash, Shaquaya Daniels, Chan Fann, Kristine Krucane, Peyton Robertson, Keta Robinette and Sheresse Williams – after the contest.

Clayton State improved to 17-10 overall and 11-7 in the league while Young Harris fell to 9-16 and 6-12. The Mountain Lions will wrap up their season Wednesday (Feb. 25) when they travel to Montevallo, Alabama, for a 6:30 p.m. contest against the University of Montevallo.

The game was a tight affair for the first 32 minutes as there were 13 lead changes and six ties. Rachel Harrell tied the game for Young Harris at 56 with her three-pointer with 8:16 remaining. However, the Lakers took the lead for good 21 seconds later on Shay Upshaw's layup. That started the deciding run by Clayton State that saw them open a 74-60 advantage on a Kenish Jones-Barrett layup with 1:56 to play.

Robertson led the Mountain Lions with 17 points while Fann added 12 points and six rebounds. Cash pulled down nine rebounds while Williams added nine points. Harrell contributed eight points and Jasmine Knight had seven points and four steals. Young Harris scored 24 points off Clayton State's 21 turnovers.
