MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College ended its Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday (Feb. 11) evening at the Centennial Center on a 13-5 run as the Bobcats rallied for a 57-51 victory over Young Harris College.
The Bobcats improved to 12-10 overall and to 8-7 in the Peach Belt while the Mountain Lions fell to 9-13 and 6-9. Young Harris returns to the YHC Basketball Arena Sunday (Feb. 15) when they host No. 7 Columbus State University in a 2 p.m. PBC contest.
The game saw 10 ties and 10 lead changes. Young Harris opened up a 46-44 lead after Rachel Harrell hit a three-pointer and Kaycee Cash hit one of two free throws with 3:50 remaining. The Bobcats took the lead for good at 48-46 as they sank four free throws – two by Belinda Schaafsma and two by Enisha Donley – with 2:56 to play.
Schaafsma connected on a jump shot – the only field goal by the Bobcats in the game's final 7:07 – to give the Bobcats a 50-46 lead with 2:13 left.
Young Harris got as close as three points (51-48) when Jada Williams sank two free throws with 42 seconds remaining, but the Bobcats were able to keep the Mountain Lions at bay as they converted six of eight throws in the final 41 seconds.
Peyton Robertson led Young Harris with 12 points while Harrell added 11. Shaquaya Daniels tossed in nine points while Shereese Williams grabbed nine rebounds as the Mountain Lions held a 45-29 advantage on the glass. Kaycee Cash also pulled down eight rebounds.
Shanteona Keys led Georgia College with 18 points while Larice Walker added 10 more.
