YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. |
Young Harris College led wire-to-wire as the Mountain Lions opened their home schedule with a 88-66 non-conference men's basketball victory over Clark Atlanta University Wednesday (Nov. 18) evening at the YHC Basketball Arena.

The Mountain Lions improved to 1-2 and they will host King (Tenn.) University Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in their homecoming contest. The Panthers remained winless in three tries.

C.J. Wilson led Young Harris with 17 points and nine rebounds while Ben Waterhouse added 17 points and seven rebounds while Marques McKoy added a double double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Young Harris jumped out to a 21-6 lead on a put back by J.B. Charles with 12:22 remaining in the first half before the Mountain Lions took a 43-24 lead at the half on two Alex Pack free throws with 0.6 seconds left. Young Harris held the Panthers to 26.7 percent (8-of-30) shooting in the opening 20 minutes.

"I thought it was a team effort," said Young Harris head coach Pete Herrmann. "When we had four players with two fouls each in the first half, the bench came in and did a good job when the starters went out. We had a sound effort defensively, was great on the glass and contested shots. We ran the ball well, but we didn't finish our shots."

Young Harris, which set a new single-game record (NCAA era) with 65 rebounds against Clark Atlanta, pushed its advantage out to 32 points (85-53) on a Charles layup with 3:56 to play. The Mountain Lions scored 19 second-chance points as Young Harris, which had 22 offensive rebounds, held a 30-rebound margin over the Panthers.

Charles finished with nine points and eight rebounds for Young Harris while Devin Coleman had eight points and six rebounds and Angus Howey contributed seven points.

Damien Enoch was the only Panther to finish in double figures with 14 points and six rebounds.
