DAHLONEGA, Ga. | The Young Harris College men's golf team moved up to fifth place Tuesday (Oct. 6) afternoon at the University of North Georgia Fall Invitational.
The Mountain Lions shot their best round of the tournament with a four-under par 284 on the par 72, 6,967-yard layout on the Achasta Golf Club to finish the 54-hole event with a score of 860. The four-under par 860 also established a new program 54-hole record (NCAA era), surpassing the 869 total the Mountain Lions shot at last year's West Georgia tournament. No. 25 Lee University won the 17-team tournament with a score of 836, four strokes better than Carson-Newman University.
Eli Crumley set new personal bests for low round and 54-hole scores. Crumley finished in a tie for seventh place at 210 after posting a five-under par 67 in the final round. Crumley's previous best 18-hole score was 68 while he lowered his best 54-hole tally by six strokes.
David Wallin shot 70 in the final round to finish in a tie for 15th place at two-under par 214.
Clark Melton registered a 75 to finish at 216 - four strokes lower than his previous best 54-hole score - and in 25th place while
Trey Pearson had a 72 and tied for 38th place at 220.
James Rowe and
Adam Taylor, who was playing as an individual, finished in a tie for 72nd place at 229. Taylor carded a 76 while Rowe completed a 78 in the final round.
Young Harris concludes its final tournament of the fall season when they travel to Carrollton, Georgia, to compete in the UWG Matt Dyas Invitational Oct. 26.
