MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State University reeled off 11 unanswered points en route to a 73-65 Peach Belt Conference men's basketball victory over Young Harris College Saturday (Jan. 3) afternoon.
The Lakers improved to 9-2 overall and to 2-1 in the Peach Belt while Young Harris fell to 5-4 and 2-1. Young Harris returns to the YHC Basketball Arena Monday (Jan. 5) when they host cross-mountain rival University of North Georgia at 7:30 p.m.
Young Harris held a 36-33 lead at the half as the Mountain Lions ended the first half on a 14-5 run. Isaiah Johnson scored 10 of his 18 points during the run.
The Lakers regained the lead as they scored 10 unanswered points in the first 1:51 of the second half to take a 43-36 lead on a Kelsey Terry jumper. However, the Mountain Lions battled back and used a 10-0 run of their own as they regained the lead at 57-54 on a C.J. Wilson three-pointer with 7:42 to play.
Clayton State broke the game open as they scored 11 consecutive points to take a 67-59 lead on a putback by Jamil McKee with 2:26 left. The Lakers held a 48-29 advantage on the boards and outscored the Mountain Lions 13-0 on second-chance points.
Terry led the Lakers with 24 points while Saiquan Terry added 14. McKee added 11 points and 14 rebounds while J.C. Bonny added 11 points. Wilson led the Mountain Lions with 23 points and seven rebounds while Kevin Altidor added 14 points.
