CALERA, Ala. – Records fell as the Young Harris College men's golf team finished in fourth place at the University of Montevallo/Full Moon BBQ Invitational Tuesday (Sept. 16) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions shot a record round of one-under par 283 – nine strokes lower than any 18-hole score – on the par 71, 6,745-yard layout at the Timberline Golf Club to finish the 36-hole event with a record score of 575. The previous low 36-hole score in the program's history was 597, set at last year's tournament.
David Wallin was the top Mountain Lions finisher as he fired a one-under 70 in the final round to finish the two-day event in a tie for 11th place at even-par 142, breaking the 36-hole record of 144 set by teammate Clark Melton last year. Linus Manntz set a new program record for low round when he shot a sizzling three-under par 68 in the final round to finish in a tie for 14th at 143. Manntz's low round was two lower than the previous record of 70 held by Melton and Adam Taylor.
Melton and Trey Pearson finished in a tie for 20th place at 145. Pearson carded a 72 in the final round while Melton had a 73. Eli Crumley had a 74 to complete the 36-hole tournament at 149, good for a tie for 32nd.
The University of West Georgia won the event at 549 while West Georgia's Kevin Clarke earned medalist honors at 134.
The Mountain Lions return to the links Monday (Sept. 22) when they travel to St. Augustine, Florida, to compete in the Jay Jennison Memorial.
