YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Delta State University converted five Young Harris College errors into nine unearned runs as the No. 6 Statesmen defeated the Mountain Lions 10-2 in a non-conference baseball game at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Statesmen improved to 26-7 while the Mountain Lions fell to 23-18. Young Harris now hits the road for the final nine games of the season, starting with a three-game Peach Belt Conference set against cross-mountain rival University of North Georgia. First pitch for the opener Friday (April 11) in Dahlonega, Ga., is 6 p.m.
Delta State scored six unearned runs in the first inning against Young Harris starter Travis Donahoo (1-2) on just three hits as the Mountain Lions committed two costly errors.
The Mountain Lions got two runs back in their half of the first as Jack Morrow doubled home Josh Rudnik, who reached on a single. Tom Valichka also added a RBI single to center field.
The Statesmen got their lone earned run in the second on a single up by middle by Brent Langston. Delta State took advantage of two more Young Harris errors in the seventh to score three more runs.
Casey Greene (2-1) earned the win for Delta State. Kasey Hinton led the Statesmen with four hits while Dex Herrington, Will Robertson, and Benji Sullivan had two each. Hinton and Langston had two RBI apiece.
Rudnik led the Mountain Lions with two hits.
