North Georgia takes opener over Young Harris 7-4

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - Cameron Crawford collected three hits and drove in two runs as the University of North Georgia rallied for a 7-4 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Young Harris College Friday (April 11) evening at Bob Stein Stadium.

North Georgia improved to 17-20 overall and to 5-14 in the league while the Mountain Lions dropped their third consecutive game and fell to 23-19 and 11-11. The three-game series resumes Saturday (April 12) with a 4 p.m. contest.

The Nighthawks took a 2-0 lead after three innings. North Georgia pushed across a run in the second on an RBI double by Cameron Crawford and added another on a passed ball an inning later.

Young Harris retook the lead at 4-2 with a four-run fourth inning. Trey Rogers had an RBI single, but the bulk of the damage was done by a towering three-run home run by Dom Wyshinski over the scoreboard in right-center field. It was Wyshinki's fourth homer of 2014.

North Georgia tied the game at 6 with two runs in the sixth off YHC starter Justin Cooper (4-4). Crawford induced an RBI walk before a sacrifice fly by Nick Vinson.

The Nighthawks added three runs in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead. Travis Naraine led off with a walk and later scored on a wild pitch. An RBI ground out by Krupp scored the second round before a bunt single down the third base line by Joey Cecere allowed Andrew Gordon to score. All three Nighthawks that scored in the inning reached base courtesy of a walk.

Brandon Agar (5-4) earned the win on the mound for North Georgia striking out five while scattering seven hits over seven innings. Christian Turnipseed collected his league-leading 10th save of the season after pitching the final two innings.

Josh Rudnik led the Mountain Lions with two hits.
